ASHRAE Certification: Building Energy Modeling Professional

Because an important purpose of bEQ is to recognize owners who have chosen to optimize their buildings energy performance, the program seeks to ensure that individuals who conduct As Designed evaluations are competent professionals who understand modeling principles, and can accurately apply the bEQ standardized inputs to the model and interpret the results for the building owner.

To receive an As Designed rating, building owners may engage the services of professionals who have earned the ASHRAE-Certified Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) designation.

ASHRAE’s BEMP certification program was developed in collaboration with the U.S. affiliate
of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA-USA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

The purpose of this program is to certify individuals’ ability to evaluate, choose, use, calibrate, and interpret the results of energy modeling software when applied to building and systems energy performance and economics and to certify individuals’ competence to model new and existing buildings and systems with their full range of physics.

The BEMP examination is $295 for ASHRAE members and $415 for non-members. Learn more
